How to get rid of postpartum heart palpitations

#1 Blood sugar regulation

After birth, your blood sugar tends to dip, and your cortisol rises. So you must consume healthy fat and protein to keep your levels stable.

Fat + Protein + Fiber Formula in The Present Momma.

Tell you about my client, Elise

“My biggest gap postpartum was that nobody told me (doula, midwives, doctors) how important diet was to help me through the sleep deprivation stage of motherhood. My sleep deprivation rapidly turned into PPA and PPD, and it has ultimately led to nightly panic attacks and insomnia. I’ve realized that my nervous system has been destroyed over two years. Funnily enough, I have been vegan for years - “because of the animals”. Before that, I was a vegetarian since making the connection of where meat came from when I was 8. In the last few months, I’ve added eggs a bit of dairy, and fish. Since starting Present Momma (day 3 today) I have already had grass-fed red meat, and bone broth, and have added all the necessary supplements that I believe I am lacking. Thank you so much. I’m looking forward to feeling better! -Elise

When you’re feeling shaky, consume healthy fat and protein to balance your blood sugar.

You don’t need to go out and buy protein mixes… just consume protein-rich foods, such as grass-fed meat or lamb, eggs, organic dairy, beans, lentils, and wild-caught seafood low in mercury. Choose a variety of whole grains as well as fruits and vegetables.

Secret #2 Postpartum Stinging Nettles

“I was in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy when I noticed very bad heart palpitations and the midwives wouldn't do anything about it. I kept mentioning it to them but nothing was done. I had the baby and up until 5 months postpartum I still had heart palpitations and Drs didn't think any of it but one. She sent me to the cardiologist, still haven't gone to the appointment yet, but I started watching Tara's videos because I am insulin-resistant and wanted a natural remedy. She recommended stinging nettles to calm my nervous system and I started drinking it 2 x a day. I noticed my heart palpitations were gone after 3 days of drinking it. I was impressed!” -Olivia Luque

  • Nettles can help steady blood sugar, especially during the postpartum period.

  • There’s a tea I like called Milkmaid that has stinging nettles in it

Secret #3 No Gluten

  • Gluten can cause a spike in your blood sugar, and could also cause inflammation or malabsorption in your body

  • Gluten is anything with wheat, rye, or barley.  Soaking, sprouting, or fermenting foods like sourdough may feel better on your body.

  • Avoid gluten for 2 weeks to see how you feel. If you tolerate it maybe consume just 1 serving a day rather than every meal.

  • Stop gluten, like the example above, gluten can aggravate some individuals and cause anxiety, especially if you have something called leaky gut syndrome.

  • Focus on whole grains: amaranth, brown rice, buckwheat, corn, millet, quinoa, and wild rice, gluten-free oats preferably soaked or sprouted

Secret #4: Postpartum Herbs

  • Add in Motherwort

  • Just as the name suggests, motherwort was made for moms.

  • A long history of use for women with reproductive problems, PMS, headaches, and insomnia.  Feel like there is never enough time in the day to get everything done- anxious, upset, or angry, your blood pressure is rising

  • Very bitter, so a combined tincture maybe best

  • Master herbalist David Winston suggests combining fresh milky oat tops, reishi, and Rhodiola to help reduce stress. - avoid with blood thinning medications

Secret #5 Nervous System Regulation

  • Nervous system regulation is the ability to calm your nerves and heart palpitations.

  • I suggest the Push and Pause in the present momma.

  • Teach this in The Present Momma… you can’t push through anxiety.. it just leads to insomnia and depression.  We need to pause and rest, let your heart rate slow down.

  • In this video, I talk about the 5 ways to regulate your nervous system. After watching this video, check it out:https://youtu.be/xQ05pjEZnqA?si=qblrwfXhAqJN7jeO

Diet is always first; balancing your blood sugar can help immensely. Then take the right supplements, especially if you have the MTHFR gene. Then, the right herbal remedies for your body.
