One Simple Trick to Calm Postpartum Heart Palpitations in Under 5 Minutes (Mom-Friendly!)

Palpitations Postpartum

If your heart is racing right now…
You’ve got a toddler asking for a snack,
A baby crying,
And a to-do list with 100 things on it

I invite you to pause.

This simple, powerful exercise can help calm your anxiety and stop heart palpitations without needing to leave the house or call your therapist on speed dial. You'll teach your body how to stay calm on your own terms.

I’ve used this technique over the past two years, especially after my late husband and I moved into a house with mold. My nervous system was in overdrive, and this was one of the tools that helped me come back to myself.

As a clinical herbalist who teaches moms how to heal their bodies after childbirth, I only wish I had discovered this sooner during my own struggles with anxiety, depression, and insomnia. It’s one of the fastest, most effective ways to stop a panic spiral and return to peace.

How to do EFT tapping?

When you’re constantly busy and overstretched, you tend to push down the thoughts and emotions that feel uncomfortable. But those unspoken, subconscious thoughts are still affecting your body, raising your stress levels, quickening your heart rate, and even triggering panic.

This technique helps uncover and release those thoughts safely and gently.

It’s called EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique), and I even use it with my children. When my daughter was seven and having a panic attack, I tapped with her and discovered she felt unsafe because someone driving was also using their phone. That small insight made a huge difference for her and for me as her mom.

Let’s Begin: The Tapping Exercise

Step 1: Write It All Down

Start by writing down the intrusive or subconscious thoughts that pop up but that you tend to suppress. These could be related to:

  • Body image: “I feel fat,” “My hair is thinning,” “My breasts are sagging.”

  • Your partner: “He doesn’t help,” “He just watches TV.”

  • Money: “We don’t have enough.” “I feel anxious handing over the credit card.”

  • Trauma: Anything from your childhood, your birth experience, or past events.

  • Health worries: Fears around your health or your children’s health.

These thoughts take up mental and emotional space. By naming them, you begin to loosen their grip.

Step 2: EFT Tapping Points

Use your fingers to gently tap on the following points:

  1. Side of the hand (between pinky knuckle and palm)

  2. Between the eyebrows

  3. Side of the eye

  4. Under the eye

  5. Under the nose

  6. Chin

  7. Collarbone

  8. Under the arm

  9. Top of the head

Step 3: Tap Through the Negative Thoughts

Take a deep breath in and out. Begin tapping as you say:

  • “Even though I feel fat today, I deeply love and respect myself.”

  • “Even though I’m angry at my partner, I deeply love and respect myself.”

  • “Even though I feel like there’s no time, I deeply love and respect myself.”

  • “Even though I feel overwhelmed, I deeply love and respect myself.”

  • “Even though I worry about money, I deeply love and respect myself.”

Repeat these phrases as you tap through the points. You can go through several rounds, and new thoughts may come up. That’s normal. Let them surface and tap through them.

Step 4: Replace with Positive Affirmations

After releasing the negative thoughts, let’s replace them with truth and love:

  • “Even though I feel overwhelmed, I know there’s enough time in the day.”

  • “Even though money feels tight, I trust that abundance is on its way.”

  • “Even though my partner frustrates me, I choose love and understanding.”

  • “Even though I didn’t sleep, I can move through this day with grace.”

  • “Even though my body has changed, I honor and love it deeply.”

Tap each statement as you move through the points again. Let it sink in.

Step 5: Close with Breath

Place your hand over your heart. Take a slow, deep breath in... and exhale.
Feel the shift.

Breathing and tapping are just one piece of the puzzle for healing anxiety, heart palpitations, and the emotional rollercoaster of motherhood. But this simple practice can be your daily anchor.
