Hey Mama, have you ever woken up startled or afraid, or maybe fed the baby, and now you can’t fall back asleep? Today, we're talking about a morning or middle-of-the-night routine for when you wake up and can't drift off again.

Here are some remedies to help you get back to sleep quickly. Grab a pen and paper because you’ll want these on hand for those middle-of-the-night wake-ups.

Remedy #1: Homeopathy

I love using homeopathic remedies at night because they work quickly and don’t require getting up to make tea, which can disturb your sleep further. However, using homeopathy correctly can be tricky. In an upcoming video, I’ll teach you how to use homeopathic remedies during the postpartum period. For now, I have a free training on children’s health that introduces the basics of homeopathy. Check the link below.

Three of my favorite homeopathic remedies for middle-of-the-night wakefulness are:

  1. Aconite – Ideal if you wake up between midnight and 2 a.m. with fear or anxiety, especially after a startling noise. Remember, if nightmares are involved, you may need to adjust your B vitamins.

  2. Cocculus – Perfect for new moms who are waking up exhausted after feeding the baby and can't get back to sleep.

  3. Sulphur – If you're feeling hot, itchy, or bothered and it’s keeping you awake, this could be your remedy.

Make sure to choose a 6C or 30C potency when starting with homeopathy. Blended homeopathic remedies from brands like Hyland's or Boiron may also work for you, though they’re more general. But if they don't work, don’t give up on homeopathy entirely; it's all about finding the right match.

Remedy #2: Herbal Tinctures

Tinctures are another great option. Simply put, a tincture is an herb soaked in alcohol or glycerin for several weeks, then strained. They’re quick-acting and easy to take. For example, chamomile tincture can be soothing, and stronger herbs like valerian, kava kava, or passionflower are great for calming circular thoughts. If you’re experiencing heart palpitations, try motherwort, and for overall relaxation, ashwagandha powder or supplements work well.

Remedy #3: EFT Tapping

Regularly practicing EFT tapping can help if you're dealing with recurring anxious thoughts. Last week’s video covers how to use EFT for middle-of-the-night wake-ups. Yoga Nidra, breathing exercises, or gentle stretching can also help calm your body and mind, allowing you to settle back into sleep.

If you’re waking up multiple times a night, as I did with twins, it’s important to avoid alcohol, limit caffeine to the morning, and reduce sugar before bed.

I hope these strategies help you reset your sleep. If you’re serious about healing postpartum anxiety naturally, don’t forget to join the free "Present Mama" masterclass, where we address the root cause of your anxiety and help you feel calm and present again.
